After the quest "Tending the Flames", the player can speak to Tyriana, an Argonian in the Bards College. She can help the player discover new places to visit by revealing the map markers - for a price.
Asking her "What did you mean by 'Ancient Places'?" will clear the miscellaneous objective given from the main quest to speak to her. From then on, she'll have a dialogue option available: "I'd like to discover a new location."
Selecting this will then prompt the player to select a region in Skyrim where they'd like her to search.
Next, the player will choose the type of location they'd like. This is written immersively; consult the chart below for a plain explanation of what each option will lead to:
| Dialogue Option | Leads To |
|---|---|
| A little civilization would be nice. | Holds, smaller settlements, Inns, Temples |
| Somewhere of historical importance, perhaps ruins. | Ruins, Nordic Ruins, Dwemer Ruins, Shrines to the Nine |
| Points of interest or old landmarks. | Forts, standing stones, or other points of interest outside |
| Natural formations, maybe raw materials and the like. | Caves, Mines, Locations to get resources based on rarity |
| Places few dare tread, long lost mysteries... | Daedric Shrines, Dragon Mounds, Word Walls |
Each of these options will lead to a series of sub-options with a gold cost. Not every option will appear under every location - only those that a location was found by the behind-the-scenes system, which uses tags that Bethesda or mods place on locations to group them.
Once selected, Tyriana will search for one in the area - if found, the map marker will be revealed (the player will still need to reach the location to fast travel to it) and the gold cost will be taken. If she fails to find a location of that type for some reason, the gold will not be taken and she'll apologize.
During the quest "Of Songs and Shouts", the player will be given a miscellaneous objective to locate a tablet. After receiving this, if the player asks Tyriana about hidden relics (or had previously), she will gain a new dialogue option "I seek relics, can you help me?" followed by an option "Have you anything... special?".
Selecting this will reveal the locations of the other two tablets that pair with the one noted in the quest.
After completing that quest, the service will point the player to additional tablets used to unlock new Shouts.
